Mira Loma gets a “new” leader in the A-Wing

Mira Loma High School began the 2026–27 school year with a new principal—but not exactly a new Matador.

Dr. Carrie Jackson, a Mira Loma alumna, has returned to her alma mater to serve as principal, bringing her career in education full circle and giving our community another wonderful example of where the Mira Loma experience can lead.

Dr. Jackson grew up in Sacramento and is herself a product of San Juan Unified. Before returning to Mira Loma, she served as an assistant principal at Cordova High School and previously worked in curriculum and instruction, where she helped develop Folsom Cordova Unified’s ethnic studies program. Her work as an educator and administrator has emphasized student opportunity, community engagement, leadership, and creating schools where students feel connected and supported.

The 2026-2027 School year is about to get started!

Dr. Jackson has already made an impact at MLHS meeting the parents, clubs and committees that support the school!

Her ties to Mira Loma are also a family affair. Dr. Jackson and her husband are both Mira Loma alumni. Although the two knew the same hallways as students, theirs was not a high-school romance—they did not date while attending Mira Loma. Their paths eventually came together afterward, and they have now been married for more than two decades.

There is something especially meaningful about an alumna returning not simply to visit the campus where she once studied, but to help lead its next generation.

In welcoming the community to the new school year, Dr. Jackson has spoken about honoring Mira Loma’s rich traditions while continuing to look toward innovation and growth. She has also emphasized the importance of partnership among students, staff, families, alumni, and the larger community.

For generations of Matadors, Mira Loma has been more than a place attended for four years. It becomes part of who we are—and Dr. Jackson's return is a wonderful reminder of that connection.

Mira Loma Alumni & Friends is thrilled to welcome Dr. Carrie Jackson home and looks forward to this exciting new chapter for Mira Loma High School.

Once a Matador, always a Matador.
