MLAF Mini-Grant Program
The MLAF Mini-Grant Program supports MLHS Students directly!
About this program…
The MLAF Charter has two parts: The first is to support the alumni and reunions, especially the 50th year reunions. The second is to insure that MLHS has a successful graduating student body. While it is fun to spend time with your classmates during your reunion, nothing give us more pleasure than to support MLHS with Mini-Grants.
On the second anniversary of this organization, we began to learn more and more about needs of the teachers and sports programs at Mira Loma High School and the fact is that there are many unfulfilled needs. We decided that MLAF could help meet those needs. As an organization we needed to know what the needs of the teachers, coaches and staff were so that we could determine the best way to help those programs.
Now, on the “Day of the Teacher” Appreciation Day, MLAF emails the MLHS staff inviting them to a continental breakfast and to complete the Mini-Grant application with their wishes for the following year. We have purchased many, many items, including the following:
Books for individual reading, as well as, class sets of books
Art supplies
Musical instrument repairs
Sports equipment such as footballs, basketballs, soccer, water polo, and tennis equipment
Technology for individual classrooms
Supplies for multi-cultural festivals
It is through the donations of our alumni and our fundraiser efforts that we are able to give these grants each year.
Our alumni has given over $85,000 to support our Alma Mater
At the first MLHS staff meeting in August, the Mini-Grant Gifts are at the front of the meeting room and each recipient is given a certificate along with their grants.
When the staff walks into the room and sees all the “gifts”, they think of “Christmas in August”. What a great way to kick off the start of school each year!
